Winchester: A pet-friendly district for dog walking

Within the 20 miles of Winchester, you’re going to find some amazing hiking trails for dog walking, 74 to be exact! Here’s a peak at some of them:

St Catherine’s Hill

If you’re looking for a challenging walk for yourself and your lovely four-legged companion, then head over to St Catherine’s Hill where the steep ascent is something you’ll remember for a lifetime, thanks to the stunning views.

You’ll also find plenty of woodland trails for your furry friend to explore, apart from ample open space for a bit of fetch and other fun games.

South Downs Way

Whether you prefer to ask your local doggy day care centre to take your dog for a walk or like to do it yourself, South Downs Way offers a very nice mix of flat trails and hilly inclines. It’s particularly jaw-dropping due to the views, so gather up your friends and family along with your furry friend, and take in all the breathtaking beauty, one step at a time.

Blackwood Forest

Winchester has lots of great places for dogs to run around and Blackwood Forest is one of them. Not only that but you’ll also find a handful of spots to have a picnic and make a stopover at a café, if you want to re-supply on refreshments or grab a bite before exploring the rest of the area. There’s lots of local wildlife too, so keep your companion on a short lead but do keep that camera ready to catch some unforgettable moments.

Magdalen Hill Down

As the name implies, Magdalen Hill Down is a hilly walk with lots of planned routes to explore with your beloved companion. You’ll love the open areas for picnicking or enjoying a game of fetch, where you and your dog have the freedom to wander around as you please. There’s also a lovely butterfly zone nearby where the adorable critters are conserved for everyone to admire.

Cheesefoot Head

Cheesefoot Head happens to be a very well-known beauty spot, offering an excellent vantage point over the wider Winchester and Hampshire area, where there’s 33 acres of unspoilt land to explore. The area is fairly flat all in all, so you can look forward to long, relaxing walks once you get into Cheesefoot Head via South Downs National Park.

Farley Mount

The country park experience here is something you and your furry friend simply should not miss. With its fair share of green paths, forestry, and other attractions, Farley Mount is an excellent dog walking spot. There’s also a beautiful circuit road which takes you up to Crab Wood. Despite its popularity among dog walkers, it’s a fairly quiet and peaceful place.

Happy Hounds is your go-to place for dog grooming in Winchester. If you want to take a break from dog walking and have him/her pampered to no end, then book your friend into our delightfully friendly doggy day care centre.
